10. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of those great movies that most people enjoy on a superficial level as a youngster, and once they come of age, they realise just how much of an a**hole Matthew Broderick's titular protagonist actually is. Still a great movie, though.
While a more conventional teen comedy would have had Ferris change his possibly-sociopathic ways and become a more empathetic human being, he remains pretty much the same throughout.
He's a cocky, defiant hooligan from the movie's first frame until its last, and there's little sign of that changing in the future.
It ultimately proves to be a genius move by writer-director John Hughes, though, who contrasts Ferris' firmly-set character traits with the significant arc of his pal Cameron (Alan Ruck), who many assert is in fact the film's true protagonist.
