10 Best Non-Horror Films To Watch This Halloween 2020
4. Labyrinth
The creations of Jim Henson have always walked a fine line between scary and enjoyable. The incredible puppeteer and filmmaker approached his work with the concept of helping children to experience emotions, including fear. He would fill his projects with frightening imagery that scared his audiences, but also kept them glued to the screen. This worked so well that his titles are still enjoyable to this day no matter your age, and one of his best has to be Labyrinth.
The story of Labyrinth centres on Sarah - played by Jennifer Connelly - as she travels to the goblin kingdom to save her brother Toby, whom she inadvertently convinced the goblin-king Jareth - embodied by David Bowie - to steal away. Her journey is a fantastic coming of age story that truly sees her develop and grow as a character, starting out as a spoiled girl and ending as a heroic sister.
The film is full of puppetry, as can be expected from Henson, and the creations are simply magical. Its identity is unique, and that is likely because the absurd project was written by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame. He brings his A-game when it comes to crafting this strange world.
When Halloween comes around, this is the kind of film you want to have on hand. Dance magic dance!
