Setting the tone for a movie is crucial. Not only does it let you know the type of movie you're about to see, but it's one of the lasting memories you walk away with. As such, superhero movies have quite a knack for kicking things off on the right foot, even if the rest of the movie doesn't quite live up.

Whether it's Christoper Nolan, Taika Waititi, Joss Whedon, or Zack Snyder, those at the helm of these superhero flicks know what it takes to grab the audience and get them invested right away. After all, the opening to a movie can really make or break the experience, as it establishes the pace for the rest of the journey.

10. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok had a lot riding on it. The first two Thor movies are considered among the worst in the MCU, but, where most directors would opt for a high-octane scene, Taika Waititi didn't try to go all-out with his opening for Thor: Ragnarok.

Ragnarok opens up with Thor chained up in the belly of Muspelheim, trading hilarious barbs with a demon. It's 100% tonal shift from both previous Thor movies and one that showcased a rarely seen side of the God of Thunder.

Of course, the entire movie was a blast from start to finish, making it a high contender for the best Marvel movie, but that opening scene really helped establish the new Thor. And hey, it even featured a dragon chase scene for good measure.
