9. Fields Covered In Oil (Quantum Of Solace)

Quantum Of Solace was an uneven movie to be sure but one of its strongest themes was the way in which it painted Bond as poison to all the women he comes into contact with. While in the midst of trying to prove that he€™s over Vesper€™s death (which he€™s clearly not), he€™s confronted with yet another dead lover.

Finally ready to declare that Quantum's entire plot isn€™t about oil, he returns to find his hotel swarmed by MI6 agents and Fields laid out dead on the bed, covered in oil. In addition to being a brilliant callback to Goldfinger, this death discredits him both personally and professionally, as even M doesn€™t want to hear him out.

Not only does this further the plot, but it also enhances Bond€™s journey. Though she was only in a few scenes, Fields dying stings because she was so idealistic. M points out that she was an office worker and it€™s clear that the only reason she died was because of her association with Bond, something he€™ll continue to reconcile with until the end of the film.
