10 Best Sci-Fi Film Comedies Of All Time
2. Thor Ragnarok
Second spot on this list goes to the one out and out comedy of the MCU franchise, with a kooky kiwi saving a franchise in the process. Considering the rather lacklustre films that had come before in the Thor franchise, the move from Sci-Fi-Action-Romance to Sci-Fi-Action-Comedy was a great choice. The truly genius move though came with the signing up of Tahini Raihiti as Director, the New Zealander bringing out the best in his ensemble case.
Chris Hemsworth is the greatest benefactor here, his stoic but lacklustre hero now oozing with charm and more befitting a hero than ever before. Natalie Portman's lacklustre Jane Foster character is replaced by the screen stealing Tessa Thompson, whose Valkyrie character hides a world of pain through some seriously heavy drinking.
Cate Blanchett is brilliantly menacing as Thor's evil sister Hela, adding a genuine sense of threat to proceedings, while the likes of Tom Hiddleston and Hemsworth strike the perfect balance between comedic moments and high intensity family drama. BOG honours among the support cast is a tie between Jeff Goldblum who brilliantly portrays himself, and the Taihiti voiced Korg, who embodies the Kiwi Director's quirky humour in one hilarious CGI character.
The visuals are lifted from the comic and perfectly match the fun and frivolity of proceeding, the Bifrost Bridge's psychedelic colours a highlight. The film was exactly what the MCU needed, a reminder that a Comic book film can have high stakes and scary villains and also be a hell of a good time.
