1. The Snap - Avengers: Infinity War
But of course, was anything ever going to take the #1 spot instead of the snap - or as it's now canonically known, The Decimation - from Avengers: Infinity War?
After a gallant attempt by the superheroes to stop Thanos (Josh Brolin), he snaps his fingers while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet, wiping out half of all life in the universe in a matter of seconds.
Fans are forced to watch as many of their favourite heroes - Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Groot (Vin Diesel), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), T'Challa, Drax (Dave Bautista), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and so on - are turned to dust.
Without question the most affecting moment sees Peter Parker (Tom Holland) fearfully apologising to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) seconds before he evaporates, providing a perfect reminder that Parker is a kid after all.
And then there's the final shot: a contented Thanos sat on his porch watching the sunset, a job well done. Truly, he was the protagonist of the movie, and he accomplished exactly what he set out to do.
Even though Avengers: Endgame is sure to undo most if not all of the Mad Titan's havoc, fans will never forget the jaw-dropping shock of seeing the Decimation play out for the first time.
