10 Big 2020 Movies You Should Be Worried About
10. Black Widow
The MCU has been thundering forward for over a decade now, and while there have been some missteps (The Dark World), nothing has derailed it. There’s also been the likes of Ant-Man And The Wasp, which have netted slightly lower than expected gross from the superhero fatigue.
Whatever happens with Black Widow, it won’t have too much affect on the MCU overall. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth worrying about though.
Initially, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow had been carrying the torch for female supers in the MCU. More recently, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Nebula, Gamora and Mantis have stepped up to the plate. Following her heroic sacrifice in Endgame, seeing the iconic MCU character step aside would have been a fitting torch pass.
Black Widow might end up being a great movie. But it risks diminishing the permanence of Natasha’s sacrifice and goes against the grain of synchronicity. Captain Marvel worked well as a flashback because it sidestepped the tricky Infinity War/Endgame void and was laying the groundwork for an entirely separate story with the Scrulls.
Black Widow though feels unnecessarily disconnected, and could be a bit of a damp squib.
