9. The Lego Movie Not The Best Animated Film Of The Year?
Ever since the animated film category was invented, the winner is pretty much always the most popular cartoon that has come out in any given year. It's usually by Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks, and it's one of the easiest categories to predict. They throw in a few "artistic" animated films to keep up appearances, but they almost never win. In the absence of any major Disney movies coming out in 2014, the stage seemed set for The Lego Movie to win the big prize. After all, most people either liked or loved the movie, and not many actively hated. And there weren't that many other huge animated films to compete with it, at least nothing that had the same cultural impact as The Lego Movie. But lo and behold, Oscar morning came and went, and The Lego Movie didn't even get a nod. Weirdly enough, its only nomination came in the Best Song category, for their irritatingly catchy, "Everything is Awesome."
