As it turns out, the knowledge that Kurt Russell was playing Ego The Living Planet - Star-Lord's father - didn't really make a huge dent in how much you were able to enjoy Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2, but when it was first announced (well before the movie opened), it definitely caused a bit of anger within the fan community.

How do we know it caused said anger? Well, director James Gunn was forced to take to Facebook and write a lengthy post just to explain why this knowledge wasn't a spoiler. Damage control, anyone?

The identity of Peter Quill's daddy had been teased throughout the first Guardians movie and was the single biggest talking point coming out of it, so when our years of speculation were ended out of leftfield during 2016's San Diego Comic-Con, it wasn't surprising that many people became upset.

It wasn't just the information itself that caused an uproar, it was the fact that Marvel were essentially telling us what was and wasn't a spoiler. For many people, this reveal was trivial, but for many others, this ruined a good portion of the movie - and that stung more than anything.
