8. Ridiculously Evil Looking Dolls

Creepy dolls have been around for decades, with one of the first major instances being the Twilight Zone episode Living Doll. In recent years, though, there's been a problem: they've just gotten way too scary looking. Just compare the clown doll from the original Poltergeist to the one in the remake. The original one looks scary if you're afraid of clowns, but you could conceivably imagine somebody owning it as a doll. Now look at the remake's clown. Dear God, what the hell is that? It's definitely scarier looking, and the filmmakers clearly wanted to top the first movie, but here's the thing: who on Earth would actually buy this as a doll? The same goes for Annabelle from The Conjuring and its spinoff. The real life doll she's based on is pretty normal looking and not frightening by itself, and in some ways that actually makes it more terrifying. She looks so innocent, and yet it's supposedly responsible for all this insanity. The one in the movie looks like it came straight from Satan himself. Even the doll from Dead Silence, another James Wan movie, was arguably scary looking to an unrealistic degree. Killer doll movies are always fun, but can they go back to looking like actual dolls people would own and not ones clearly designed by a horror filmmaker?
