Why It Should Win: Say what you will about the rest of Guy Ritchie's bold and divisive reinvention of King Arthur, but Daniel Pemberton's original score is without question the movie's secret weapon, a propulsive and highly unique arrangement that superbly supports Ritchie's attempt to imbue Arthurian legend with a very contemporary energy.
Why It Won't: Even if the general dislike for the film wasn't enough to turn most Academy voters away, this is always a tough and fiercely-contested category as it attracts countless competitors from both the blockbuster and art-house realms.
Basically, even if Warner Bros. actually campaigns Pemberton's splendid work, it will inevitably suffocate underneath so many more high-profile and successful films.
Plus, the Academy's older voter-base doesn't typically go for frenetic, cutting-edge music such as this, and generally opts for something with a more classical, conventional tenor to it. No chance, basically.
