The Internet rumour mill has been working overtime the last few weeks, what with the shock announcement that Ben Affleck will be playing the new Batman, and Joss Whedon's rather sly insinuation that a popular character might be dying off in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Whedon has prior stated that the sequel will feature "death, death, death", though later explained that he'd have to find a damn good reason to kill one of The Avengers off, given how much they mean monetarily to Marvel Studios, as well as to fans. Fair play to Joss for not letting the cat entirely out of the bag two years before release, but it's fair to expect that, in true Whedon style, a likable character is going to meet a grim end before the film's over. Given that Loki has already been confirmed not to appear in the movie - as he is blatantly going to die in Thor: The Dark World - here are 10 characters Joss just might kill off. Let's begin with the most unlikely candidate of all...
10. Iron Man
It's hard to imagine the grapefruit-sized cojones Joss Whedon would need to kill off a character of Tony Stark aka Iron Man's stature. Even ignoring the fact that it would p*ss off every Marvel fanboy, it's extremely unlikely simply because, to many, Iron Man is the main attraction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and without question its poster boy. Iron Man 3 made over $1 billion for a reason, and to kill him off - whether it suits the narrative or not - would be akin to flushing money down the toilet. Plus, after all the existential and physical anguish Tony went through in the last movie, would it really make sense to just have him die? Age of Ultron needs a triumphant Tony Stark back on form, not a movie that sees him hit a very definitive rock bottom from which he cannot return. Chance Of It Happening: 1/10
