McConaissance, the former star of terrible rom-coms such as Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past and Failure To Launch somehow managing to totally recreate himself instead as an award-winning character actor. The Matthew McConaughey of today is instead the inscrutable, hollow-looking pessimist at the centre of the first season of True Detective, the Oscar-winning lead in Dallas Buyers Club. Alright alright alright, it's been four years, and McConaughey has shown no signs of slowing down. In fact he's on a real high right now, thanks in so small part to getting bigger dramatic roles in the likes of Interstellar. Bearing his renewed skills and stature in mind, doesn't it seem crazy he hasn't been in a superhero film yet? Well, it's not for lack of trying. During an interview promoting new Gus Van Sant film Sea Of Trees, McConaughey let slip that he's had meetings with both DC and Marvel about playing any number of characters. He's not signed on for anything though Nothing has been right for me yet. But Im sure open to it. So what, prey tell, are some comic book roles that would be right for Matthew McConaughey? There's a real paucity of superheroes from the South provided he won't be playing any sort of real-life masked vigilante with both the MCU and DC films so far being very East Coast-centric.
