10 Comic Book Movies That Aren't Based On Comic Books

Kids go to school. Kids like comic book movies. So why not have a comic book movie about superheroes going to school? It all made perfect sense to Disney, who hired Mike Mitchell to direct this teen titan affair in 2005. Following the hormone-powered tribulations of super-sprog Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), it was a fairly standard catalogue of whining and derring-do and a canny way for the House of Mouse to hitch a ride on the gravy boat. A cult trio of seismic proportions led the grown up side of the equation - former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, former Snake Kurt Russell and current chainsaw-wielding Ash Bruce Campbell. For some reason the villain was called Royal Pain, a name which some parents dragged along to screenings may have appreciated. Respectable returns made Sky High a decent investment for the studio, though it walked up walls rather than soared into the clouds. It gave the genre a good-natured ribbing, but the efforts weren't enough to launch a franchise.
