Rotten Tomatoes Score: 30% Kick-Ass is one of the smartest, coolest and most entertaining superhero film ever made, which means that Kick-Ass 2 had a hell of a lot to live up to. It didn't come anywhere close to matching the brilliance of Matthew Vaughn's original, of course, but there's still a sense that the seriously negative reviews that met its release were kind of unwarranted: is Kick-Ass 2 really as bad as it was purported to be? Well, no - nowhere near. Although it lacks the satire of the first, Kick-Ass 2 is still an entertaining - albeit incredibly bloody - superhero movie, and a faithful adaptation of the comic book sequel on which it was based. Whilst Aaron Taylor-Johnson makes less of an impact as the titular hero, Chloƫ Grace Moretz makes up for it with another badass turn as Hit-Girl, now boasting a fleshed out personal story that makes for a compelling sub-plot. For a film to score only 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, it has to be bad, and Kick-Ass 2 is still above-average fare. All this talk about it being "one of the worst superhero movies ever" just doesn't ring true; even if it is an inherently nasty film at times and Jim Carrey's extended cameo falls entirely flat, Kick-Ass 2 also has some major belly laughs and a truly memorable finale. You could really do worse than spend 100 minutes in its company.
