10 Conspiracy Theories That Actually Sound Like Popular Movies

published in the European Journal Of Social Psychology, conspiracy theorists
are needier than the rest of us. Authors Roland Imhoff and Pia Karoline
Lamberty argue that “a small part in motivating the endorsement of such
seemingly irrational beliefs is the desire to stick out from the crowd, the
need for uniqueness.”
A larger part is presumably an ability to watch mainstream films and either process the information as fact or recycle the ideas being presented. Once you’ve listened to a handful of conspiracy theorists – or to give them their proper title, “hoaxers” – you realize how many of their beliefs have already been brought to the screen by Hollywood.
You can only listen to Alex Jones claim there is poison in tap water so many times, for instance, before you’re reminded of General Jack D Ripper in Dr Strangelove, who thought fluoridation of drinking water was a monstrous commie plot to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids. Good old standbys such as mind control, doubles and assassination have inspired more films than it’s possible to count.
With that in mind, it’s time to sit back and enjoy some of these ideas as they were originally presented.
10. The Moon Is Really A Space Station
According to David Icke, not only is the Moon bigger than it
should be, older than it should be and much lighter in mass than it should be
but theories regarding its existence are just that – theories. Even NASA’s top minds have no real idea where it came
from or why it’s there.
Struck by a lunar module in November 1969, the Moon “rang like a bell” according to NASA scientists, who claimed the reverberations lasted for at least thirty minutes. In Icke’s interpretation, this can only mean one thing – the Moon is hollow.
Or as Obi-Wan Kenobi would say, “That’s no moon – that’s a space station.”
Icke’s description of what the Moon really is certainly makes it sound like the Death Star. According to him, it’s filled with navigational instruments, observation equipment and appliances for repair. Everything a spacefaring civilization would need, in other words.
