10 Cures For Your Guardians Of The Galaxy Withdrawals

By Chris OMalley /

6. Firefly

If you took Guardians and stripped back the tech and removed all the alien creatures, what you would be left with is something akin to Joss Whedon€™s much beloved €œFrontier story in Space€ Firefly. As any Browncoat in the Verse will tell you, this fact is even referenced in Guardians by the inclusion of a cameo by Captain Mal Reynolds himself (Nathan Fillion), as the amorous prisoner whose nasal passages get a good Groot-ing. The cameo also refers back to the fact Fillion and director James Gunn had worked together previously on Slither but the nod to Firefly can€™t be overlooked. There are of course parallels between Peter Quill and Mal Reynolds and the crews of Serenity and The Milano, but the most obvious shared pleasures to be found in Firefly beyond the camaraderie of the ragtag crews is the sense of fun, adventure and humour balanced with darker elements. If you need something to help taper the Guardians withdrawals then Firefly will make the shakes and sweats fall away in no time.
