2. Why Did Thor Visit A Cave? - Avengers: Age Of Ultron
The Mystery:
There's an incredibly bizarre and ambiguous scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) visits a cave with Dr. Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) in order to seek answers about his apocalyptic visions.
Thor gets into a pool and experiences a vision of an extinction event on Earth and sees the Infinity Stones and, uh, that's about it. What the hell just happened?
The Deleted Scene:
An extremely silly scene that understandably hit the cutting room floor kinda-explains that Thor entered the pool in order to be embodied by Norn, a goddess of destiny, who Selvig then grills about the means through which to stop Ultron (James Spader).
Even though the deleted scene sheds more light on an extremely fleeting and incoherent beat in the theatrical cut, it's still dangerously close to nonsense, and ultimately a sensible omission by Whedon (especially in a 141-minute movie).
