10 Devastatingly Dark MCU Theories

10. Peter Parker's Parents Were Killed On 9/11

When Spider-Man was rebooted once again for his inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there was a lot of his backstory that was left out. Let’s be honest, after seeing both Tobey and Andrew’s Uncle Ben die, no one needed to see it again, and another aspect of Peter’s life that has never been touched on in the MCU is his parents.

There has so far been no hint as to where they are, what happened to them, or why Peter was living with his aunt in Queens. Luckily however, there is a theory that may answer this question, and it’s a dark one.

The theory states that the parents of Peter Parker were killed during the attack on the World Trade Center on 11th September 2001. With Spidey being confirmed to be 15 years old in Homecoming, the dates could match up, but there is more compelling evidence to believe this theory to be true.

Throughout Homecoming, it is established that Peter has never been on any type of aeroplane before, and that he has a crippling fear of heights. Both of these would be perfectly explained by his parents tragically dying in the 9/11 attacks, and would loosely follow their comic background of being murdered whilst flying in the air.
