5. The Karate Kid

Columbia Pictures

One of the most iconic movies of the '80s, The Karate Kid introduced the world to Mr. Miyagi and his timeless wisdom. The decade's movie culture was obsessed with martial arts, but The Karate Kid helped to add spirituality and wisdom beyond the usual mindless action.

With the classic underdog tale and positive message for younger audiences, you might think that a remake isn't such a terrible idea. You'd be very wrong. Jackie Chan, while a great personality in his own right, just didn't have the timeless quality of Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi. The casting of Jaden Smith as the titular kid didn't help either, with a performance that didn't come close to Ralph Macchio.

If you really want to educate the youngsters, then "wax off" this terrible reboot and "wax on" the original classic.
