10 Disney Live-Action Remakes That Won't Happen
Despite the success of the Lion King and Aladdin, these films will never be remade...
Disney's live-action remakes may not be beloved by all, but they are certainly making a statement at the box office with The Lion King, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, and Maleficent all showing there is a great deal of demand from the public for these films.
However, whilst Disney continue to announce more and more live-action remakes such as the upcoming Mulan, Lady and the Tramp, and The Sword in the Stone there are some Disney animated tales that will never see the live-action world.
Whether the reasons behind these animated films never seeing live-action remakes are financial, political, or social, some Disney animated treasures from the past that will remain just that.
10. Treasure Planet
Positive critical and audience reception is unlikely to be enough to guarantee a live-action remake of Treasure Planet.
The main reason audiences are unlikely to see a live-action Treasure Planet is that, like other films on this list, the film bombed at the box office losing Disney millions as it only managed a box office gross of $109.6 million against a budget of $140 million.
The box office disappointment of Treasure Planet actually led to the cancellation of a planned sequel which would have seen Jim Hawkins team up with Long John Silver to fight a villainous Ironbeard voiced by Willem Dafoe.
Therefore, given the fact that Treasure Planets sequel hopes were dashed due to poor box office performance it is doubtful Disney would reboot the franchise in live-action and risk more financial losses.
