7. Don't Be Fooled By the French

With film you can be sure that even though the American automobile industry is dying, American films will always be a step ahead of the competition. Yes, there have been great films to come out of foreign countries. Godard, Kurosawa, and Bergman are a few names immortalized in cinema history, and great American directors have cited these foreign directors as huge influences on their own work like Scorsese. But. And this is a huge BUT. Not all foreign films are great. One of the highest grossing films in Hong Kong was a 3D film by the name of "Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy." Yeah, I know. Sounds like it came straight out of The Valley. If Hollywood can churn out crap by the dozen every summer and make money off of it, who's to say that France, England, China, and other nations aren't doing the same? Since the foreign films that play across the U.S. are usually ones that have been successful overseas, this don't really applies to the Netflix crowd. Be careful of the foreign genre. Just because a movie is in black and white and has subtitles doesn't mean that it's a high caliber film. Don't be fooled by the foreigners. They can be just as bad as U.S.
