10 Dumbest Decisions In Paranormal Horror Movies

3. Reading The Book - Evil Dead (2013)

One of the biggest suspensions of disbelief in the original Evil Dead was the choice to stay at a creepy, secluded cabin. Thankfully, the 2013 remake remedied this by making the group stay there in order to help Mia overcome her drug addiction. But not all dumb decisions were excluded, as seen by the character Eric.

Upon discovering a basement full of dead animals and a book wrapped in barbed wire called Naturom Demonto, Eric's curiosity gets the better of him. He reads the text despite all the warnings and pages containing graphic and violent images. This awakens a malevolent force that possesses the group one by one and gets them killed in painful ways.

Eric is portrayed as your standard skeptic and is a teacher, but reading a demonic book is just asking for trouble. The film is savvy enough to know that the audience might blame Eric for this, and so he receives the brunt of the punishment throughout the Evil Dead redo.

As such, Lou Taylor Pucci's character gets a needle stuck in his eye, is bashed repeatedly, and is shot with nail guns. Ultimately, he suffers the most for the reckoning he brings to his friends.
