Star Wars: Episode VII, the beginning of a new trilogy no one was expecting, is set for release on December 18, 2015, and we know nothing about the plot. We haven't even had a title yet and Lucasfilm/Disney refuses to confirm even the return of the Big Three Luke, Leia, and Han. However, the filmmakers, led by writer/director JJ Abrams, has a veritable bounty of possible plots to follow; he need look no further than the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The Expanded Universe consists of books, films, and video games telling new stories taking place in the Star Wars galaxy. The comics under the Marvel brand released after 1977 and the novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye were the predecessors of the Expanded Universe, and it has since grown into an absolutely massive library of history. When the new films were announced, a minor storm of controversy began brewing as to whether or not they would completely discredit the decades of tales presented in the Expanded Universe. An announcement soon came that two celebrated Star Wars aficionados, Leland Chee and Pablo Hidalgo, are part of a "Star Wars story team" employed by Disney to determine what is official Star Wars canon and what is not. Certain stories are bound to be invalidated by the new film just by its very existence, but there are some plot points that could be referenced, directly mentioned, or even factored into the plot somehow. For your consideration, here are 10 Expanded Universe storylines or plot points that the new trilogy could incorporate.
