10 F*ck Ups That Made Suicide Squad A Disaster
2. The Over-Zealous Edit
The single biggest f*ck up in the whole Suicide Squad production was arguably a product of other things - Ayer's lack of a unified plan, Warner Bros' meddling, a lack of confidence: the decision to mutilate it in the editing suite.
That was probably the most dangerous thing they did, because it ruined any creative conviction, took out key elements and left a tangled mess that was all over the place. It switches tone, it is imbalanced, it misses core narrative elements... And technically, it's edited terribly.
Poor form.
What Should Have Happened
Just don't. Like having a plan to start with, having an idea of the picture you want to shape out of your edit is key. An edit should be a process of refining and stripping pieces off, not moving whole segments around, cutting out characters and actually using the editing as a story-telling mechanic.
Hopefully we'll get a cut that has a better edit at some point, but who knows.
