Upcoming Film: Doctor Strange. Director: Scott Derrickson (2016) Alternative Films: Doctor Strange. Directors: Was Craven or David Goyer Doctor Strange has been one of the most eagerly anticipated superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while now and fans went wild when they heard a certain Stephen Strange referred to as an 'enemy of HYDRA' in Captain America: The Winter Solider. Now Scott Derrickson is brining the Sorcerer Supreme to the big screen next year, with Sherlock himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, taking on the title role, Naturally there have been a few attempts to bring this much loved character to film. Back in 1986, Bob Gale attempted a script but it failed to get off the ground. His version would have been an origin story with Strange battling Dormammu. Then in 1992, the master of Horror, Wes Craven, signed on to write and direct a script for Doctor Strange for Savoy Pictures. That project died when the studio went bankrupt. Then in 1995 and 2001, David Goyer attempted to produce a script, the latter for Dimension films. After four attempts, no Doctor Strange film ever emerged, and now it is (hopefully) five times lucky for Marvel Studios; needless to say, fan anticipation is very high.
