5. George Miller's The Justice League

Upcoming Films: The Justice League Parts 1 and 2. Director: Zack Snyder (2017, 2019) Alternative Film: Justice League. Director: George Miller Despite leading the way with both Superman and Batman on film, DC is now playing catch up to Marvel in the movie stakes. Marvel are confidently ending their Phase 2 with The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the second superhero ensemble hitting cinemas next month. Warner Bros and DC meanwhile have just one Superman film under their slate. But before The Avengers was just a glint in Marvel's eye, Warner Bros were already planning a big screen team up of Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and The Martian Manhunter in what may have been the most expensive film ever made. George Miller was brought on-board to direct the script and the cast was assembled. Armie Hammer was cast as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Common as Green Lantern, Adam Brody as The Flash, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, while the Martian Manhunter would have been played by Hugh Keays. Jay Baruchel finished off the cast as villain Maxwell Lord. Filming was planned in Australia with Lord Of The Ring's WETA on board to develop the FX work. The 2007/08 writer's strike was the first nail in the coffin with the budget - over $300 million - the second. Finally Warner Bros failed to obtain a tax credit for filming in Australia and this ambitious project died.
