If, like me, you sat through the sequels of Transformers thinking "When is this going to get interesting?" then you'll agree a reboot is the only way forward. Not that the action and CGI were anything short of amazing, something you come to expect of director Michael Bay, it's just that the characters, plots, dialogue and cast really dragged this franchise through the mud. We've already seen that rebooting a franchise that's still fresh in our minds can actually pay off. In the case of The Amazing Spider-Man, it really helped me to suppress the pain of seeing Peter Parker strut down the street pointing at girls with a big grin on his face like some kind of dorky moron (Spiderman 3). I'm sure many of you were able to see past the unbearable casting of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Dark Of The Moon, or Leonard Nimoy's character quoting Spock's most famous line from Star Trek in a Transformers movie, but all that aside, the sequels didn't really take us anywhere we hadn't already been. Sure, they introduced new characters and developed the back story of the Transformers to a certain degree, but how many more times are we going to see Autobot's and Decepticon's tearing apart a city to settle their disagreements? Surely there is more to the Transformers universe than recycling the same grudge match over and over again while we painfully watch Sam Witwicky struggle to make something of himself. It's all a bit stale at this point. Wipe the slate clean, bring in a new production team, take it somewhere unexpected! Sadly this is unlikely given that Bay is apparently working on the fourth instalment. We can only hope his writers have some new ideas, but if not, I'm sure we'll enjoy the inevitable final battle at the end and Sam's revelation that he doesn't need a job to feel important. At least bring back Megan Fox!!
