As much as it pains me to admit this, the Die Hard films have become a walking joke of a franchise. Every appearance of Bruce Willis sleeping through another cameo appearance makes me yearn for a return to the blazing form that was John McClane. Then out comes one of the worst films of this year, A Good Day To Die Hard. As much as you might be willing to forgive Die Hard 4.0 it's many sins (renamed 4.less in my household), the number one was that they failed to capture the essence of the lead character. The everyman who was dragged into bad situation after bad situation, and would do his damnedest not to let evil triumph. If the fourth film painted him as a Superman that could bounce of Harrier Jets and shoot himself without any issue, then the fifth film painted him as an infallible God. Radiation poisoning is nothing to John McClane. Falling from ridiculously high heights and getting up to continue the fight was nothing to McClane 5.0. He's happy to run around constantly incorrectly shouting that he's on vacation (he went to Russia to rescue his son, does that count as a holiday?) and causing ridiculous amounts of damage on the Moscow highways which endangers hundreds of innocent folk. This is just how MacClane 5.0 operates. Every problem with the fifth film makes me want Bruce Willis to simply retire for good and leave us with the legacy of Die Hard, Die Hard 2 and With A Vengeance. But the money men simply won't let us and that's the problem with all the films on this list. If we keep paying to see them, they'll keep churning them out. So take a stand. No more rubbish sequels. That'll stop them, right? Have I missed any out, disagree or just definitely wanting me to know how much you hated any of the entries on the list? Let me know in the comments section below.
