With Michael Bay trying to generate buzz for his latest box office abomination, it's easy to forget that he once made proper and enjoyable films. Every time I go to see a Transformers film in the cinema, I have this one thought in the back of my mind, "This man gave us the brilliant Nic Cage/Sean Connery classic The Rock, maybe, just maybe... he'll get the magic back?" Suffice to say he has not. Each film has worsened drastically. From the slightly offensive stories (Decepticons were responsible for Chernobyl?) to the downright nonsensical plotlines and not forgetting racist stereotypes. The films also have a really bizarre tone of the uneven slapstick comedy paired with the super militaristic look. The sexualisation of a children's toy is the real crux of the problem though. For every scene of a robot transforming into a car, we have an equal amount of voyeuristic shots of Megan Fox's rear end or the replacement we had in film three, whose lack of talent makes her not worth naming. Suffice to say that the casting of The Happening/Max Payne ex-Funky Buncher Mark Wahlberg for the fourth installment does not fill me with confidence.
