10 Films That Are Said To Be Cursed
Hollywood curses or just plain bad luck?
There is a misconception of Hollywood that it’s all glitz and glamour for the stars lucky enough to make their living in tinseltown. But underneath the surface, a darker environment lurks. Over the years, there have been notorious stories of murders, suicide and addiction problems.
Perhaps because of the Hollywood fantasy, those stories have fostered an idea that specific movies can actually be cursed. That some supernatural force has somehow attached itself to a specific production with the intention of haunting the shoot, and sometimes anyone involved for long after it has finished.
Inevitably, there's some suspicion that studios encourage the building of mythology around their movies, but stories of sets catching fire, young stars dying under mysterious circumstances, and an array of unfortunate events have inevitably tumbled on irresistibly.
Whatever the cause of such stories, it's a subject that has caught many people’s attention and the stories are incredibly compelling. They may even frighten even the most cynical of people into believing...
10. Rosemary's Baby
Roman Polanski’s seminal horror Rosemary’s Baby has been scaring moviegoers since its release in 1968, and as part of that, many believe that the film is cursed. Tragedy struck the cast and crew soon after its release, including composer, Krzysztof Komeda who died of a brain clot. Rather spookily, it has been pointed out that his passing was almost identical to a death that features in the film.
Producer William Castle believed the film was cursed from the offset, probably because during and after production, he received many threatening letters, one of which said that he would “Die a slow and painful death”. He began experiencing excruciating groin pain from a blockage in his urinary tract, suffering from kidney stones recurrently, and on one trip to hospital he was reported to shout in delirium “Rosemary, for God’s sake, drop the knife!” He died of a heart attack in 1977.
Perhaps most tragic however, was the fate of director Roman Polanski’s wife, Sharon Tate by Charles Manson's family of followers. Tate, who was heavily pregnant at the time, was brutally killed alongside four other people while Polanski was away in London.
