5. Alien: Covenant

This latest film in the Alien franchise was a mixed bag with some beautiful imagery and great performances but plagued by ridiculous logic. Arguably the Alien films thrive on character's stupidity but when the Captain of the mission sticks his face above an obvious alien egg it becomes painful to watch.

However, for all the film's faults, the chilling reveal that Michael Fassbender's android character, David, has kept some Alien eggs for hatching before putting Daniels and Tennessee in cold storage leaves us guessing what the sequel has in store for them.

While most likely the two remaining members of the crew would meet a grisly end, as David falsely but ominously claimed they were killed by a solar flare, what David's plans are for the Alien embryos is terrifying but fascinating for where the series could head.

With its disappointing box office and Fox now a part of the more family friendly Disney it is more likely that we will discover the fate of the characters in a novelisation than a movie.
