9. The Alien Franchise

One of the cornerstones of the alien sci-fi genre, the Alien films helped lay down the template for what would become the norm for space sci-fi movies. The original movies were in a futuristic (and somewhat dystopian) setting where mankind had spread throughout the cosmos and our overlords were the corporations. Or, THE corporation to be precise.

The titular Aliens provide the main antagonists to a changing band of main protagonists with one constant, Ellen Ripley. One of the greatest female heroes in all of cinema, Sigourney Weaver provides the perfect blend of calculating intelligence, unbending courage and total badass as she deals with their parasitotic enemies, who in fact, were created by the same beings as humans.

There are numerous twists, turns, betrayals and gut bursting action all throughout, making the four movies of the original tetralogy a joy to watch.
