This is what got me in the theater and began my crusade for Friedberg and Seltzer. It was 2006, I was at home watching TV and a commercial for Date Movie comes on. Pretty standard stuff, nothing extraordinary. Then I saw it. I saw a cat sitting on a toilet and having an excessively crude bow movement. I cried genius and all but ran out the door to see the movie. Why? Well, I had been a big fan of Meet the Parents and by then (thanks to TBS) had the movie all but memorized. I thought that Friedberg and Seltzer were genius in how they took a classic scene from a popular film and flipped it on its head and exploited it for maximum laughs. Friedberg and Seltzer are often criticized for jokes people believe are way off base. However, if you were to seriously consider what De Niro taught that cat to do in Meet the Parents you would see that this is a great bit of satire that works very well in context.
