10 Future Cult Classic Movies You Need To See
2. Anna And The Apocalypse
From the likes of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Little Shop Of Horrors, and Hedwig And The Angry Inch (to name just a few), cult cinema is home to some of the most vibrant and insanely fun musicals ever made. One more that’s about to join their ranks is the Scottish zombie Christmas musical spectacular that is Anna And The Apocalypse.
The second feature film from director John McPhail and based on screenwriter Ryan McHenry’s BAFTA-nominated short Zombie Musical, what Anna And The Apocalypse lacks in budget it more than makes up for in heart. Set during a zombie outbreak just before Christmas, this festive outing follows a group of teenagers make their way through the zombie-infested streets of their hometown to reunite with their loved ones, who are taking shelter at their school.
Premiering at 2017’s Fantastic Fest where it first planted its cult roots, this film is bursting with so much life despite it featuring hordes of undead flesh-eaters. A playfully wicked sense of humour and some riotous musical numbers guarantee plenty of feel-good festive fun, but it’s the surprising amount of emotion that's present here, too, that holds this film up as something truly special.
