Quentin Tarantino has made a career out of directing films that are rammed full of colourful characters, placing these varying enigmas into intertwining storylines until they all collide in a sensational finale. We expected something way more like an exploitation actioner here, definitely.

What It Actually Was

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood doesn't skip on its finale but its journey towards its conclusion has irked a few in its bucking of the trend.

Whereas the likes of Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained boast provocative violence and action throughout, his latest outing focuses on the lives of his characters and the daily struggles they are facing in the Hollywood landscape of 1969.

The results, specifically the dialogue, are still engaging yet are aimed more at a nostalgia-hungry crowd, seeking easter eggs and call backs to an era long left behind. People who walked in expecting chaos from start to finish, left disappointed, but those who wanted a sprinkle of tinsel town, left feeling sweet satisfaction.
