This is the first thing I thought of when I was preparing the list, it is the perfect example of a film that I have seen several times and yet I only really do so for one scene. I must admit that I had prepared a big spiel about this movie being the epitome of a film that publicises its one great scene in the trailer, the studio knows that there isnt much here so they make sure everybody sees the only good part in order to sell tickets. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my memory of the trailer was wrong, its just as boring as the rest of the film. There is of course one great sequence in this movie, which we eventually get to see after sitting through a poor re-tread of the first film. We are finally given a scene that can get us on the edge of our seats. Having made it off the second island and back to civilization, Jeff Goldblums Dr. Malcolm might could be forgiven for thinking his troubles were over, but of course they werent. A Tyrannosaurus Rex had made it back to the city and proceeds to go on a rampage through San Diego. This is everything that was missing from the rest of the movie; it was fresh, new and exciting. It was the first time that The Lost World raised the stakes above that of the original. One of the most interesting aspects of the first film was that a small group of people were trapped alone on an island with dinosaurs, were as in this one there were two large groups who were fully stocked with equipment and weapons. As the original group survived why would we be concerned for these guys? Here we were given a scene that whilst it was similar to something we had seen before, gave the story a new dimension. The T-Rex wasnt on a remote island anymore, it was in San Diego! Seeing that monstrous creature chasing Malcolms car through an extremely well-populated city is something I will never forget.
