10 Great Actors Who Embarrassed Themselves In Film Musicals

By Jonathan Paxton /

9. Helena Bonham Carter in Sweeney Todd

The sign of a good musical is being left with the tunes in your head for several days. This is the main problem with €œSweeney Todd€, a great story, cast and design but, for a musical, sadly lacking enough memorable songs. Johnny Depp in the title role is threatening, malevolent and brutish even if he his singing never gets beyond a David Bowie impression. Opposite him, however, Helena Bonham Carter makes him sound like Pavarotti. Trying her best, sadly she isn€™t up to the melodic requirements of the role and can do no more than chant through routines (for further evidence, see €œLes Miserables€). Lord only knows why Tim Burton cast her... Oh, right.
