10 Great Comic Book Movie Performances You Might Have Missed

By Steve Kuncewicz /

Whether you like it or not, the comic book movie is here to stay. If you're not a fan of the genre then you have two real choices - hide in a cave for the next decade or so waiting for the next Mayan Apocalypse or learn to either live with or love them. Even in the worst comic book movie (I'm looking at YOU, Batman & Robin), there will be at least one member of the cast doing their level best to turn in a performance that you'll remember, many actors may reach their largest audiences that way. So, without further ado, for your consideration - 10 great performances from comic book movies you might have missed:

10. Michael Gough As Alfred Pennyworth, Batman & Robin

It's hard to write anything even slightly positive about a movie I refer to in polite company as Beetlejuice Does Gotham or Dog Day-Glo Afternoon. However, it does have the odd redeeming feature in Clooney's Bruce Wayne and Michael Gough's Alfred. Even when he's reading the most asinine dialogue Akiva Goldsman can throw at him, he gives it a quiet dignity and his exchanges with George Clooney were the first clue (in the movies, at least) of exactly how important Alfred is to Batman - when he shows up alive at the end of the movie you're happy. It's a shame the same can't be said for the rest of the cast.
