10 Great Horror Romance Movies For The Loved And Lost
2. After Midnight
After Midnight is arguably the most underrated horror flick of 2020. It also is one of the best movies about relationships to come out in recent years.
Soon after his girlfriend Abbey abruptly leaves, leaving only a brief note behind, Hank finds his home accosted by a strange creature at night.
Is there some beast lurking in the woods wanting in? Or did his sudden heartbreak make something in his brain snap? While these questions are a pretty big part of the movie, it doesn't really matter if the thing is real or just real to him. What matters is the film's heart, and that heart lies with the relationship between Hank and Abbey.
Whereas Wounds is about being the problem in a relationship and not doing anything about it, After Midnight is about stepping up to the plate to be the person your partner, and ultimately yourself, deserve.
This is a movie where every character feels like a fully realized person. It's so authentic in every aspect that it could make even the most cynical of viewers tear up. Especially during the karaoke scene. Maybe have a few tissues on hand for that bit.
