10 Great Midnight Movies You Need To Watch
3. Eraserhead
David Lynch- the mastermind of films such as Mulholland Drive and the frightfully great television series, Twin Peaks, made his cinematic debut with the visually surreal masterpiece Eraserhead in the 70s.
The film was initially released to a minuscule audience who didn’t know what to make of it. Luckily for the filmmaker- who spent a number of years making it- it only took a year for the popularity to pick up, which in turn kickstarted his career.
What is now regarded as one of the most important films as the 20th century, found a home thanks to the late night movie circuit. Its brilliant surrealism, and absurdness ensured that it became a mainstay for late night movie fans.
Its surreal style, sexual undertones and general weirdness ensured that the film became a huge success at the midnight screenings; though Lynch didn’t have this target audience in mind, it soon become the cult classic that to this day, has fans clamouring to understand just what the hell is going on.
