Despite being recognized as one of the top new directing talents to emerge in the last few decades, Paul Thomas Anderson is still one of the most overlooked directors working today. His movies are regarded as masterpieces by different circles of film critics, yet despite this he has only received one directing nomination at the Academy Awards which is an outright travesty. One thing he does not receive enough credit for is pulling out arguably the three best acting performances of the last decade with Daniel Day Lewis in There Will be Blood and Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the Master. He is also likely the only director who could possibly pull an Oscar nomination out of Adam Sandler. While he is extremely well respected in movie circles, he is probably less well known by mainstream audiences then Paul W.S Anderson is. His abilities as a director command more attention then they recieve as his movies are showcases in cinematography, acting and directing.
