10 Greatest Ever MMA Films

5. Kickboxer

While kickboxing isn't MMA in and of itself, it is a discipline used as a base in MMA, and Kickboxer is such an iconic film that it's difficult not to list it in any sort of list related to martial arts. Of course, the same could be said for any number of martial arts films, from Bruce Lee (called the grandfather of MMA by some) flicks to the Karate Kid to all sorts of action vehicles. However, Kickboxer - starring Jean-Claude Van Damme - gets the nod, particularly for its close association with the sport. There's the tournament storyline, and the fact that it's set in Thailand, an MMA hotbed thanks to Muay Thai (the art of eight limbs). If there's one striking discipline that stands out in MMA today, it's Muay Thai. Kickboxer is actually being remade currently, and will feature appearances by former wrestler (and one-time MMA fighter) Dave Bautista, Gina Carano, and former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. And yes, Jean Claude Van Damme will be back, only this time in a mentor role.
