After losing John Barry, Michael Kamen and Eric Serra both stepped in for one off adventures behind the conductors podium, bringing Bond into the 1990s. The six year gap between their efforts was not kind, and neither really set fire to the world of Bond. However, once David Arnold started his tenure with Tomorrow Never Dies, things started to heat up once more.While the title track for that film was rather good (especially considering it was a second choice to k.d. Langs superior Surrender, which was used as the End Titles song), the follow up would cement Arnolds reign as Bonds musical voice. Shirley Mansons seductively evil vocals would evoke the previous Shirley (Dame Bassey herself) as Bond stood poised on the edge of the New Millennium, equally ready, and yet unprepared as the lyrics read. If ever there were a song to be used as a textbook case of the title theme being used as the Villains Anthem, this would be the one.
