For my money there was no supporting performance in the 00's as perfectly crafted and performed like Christoph Waltz's take on the "Jew Hunter" Hans Landa. This is not just the best supporting performance in a Tarantino film but the best performance overall in his 7 feature films. Waltz's performance is flawless from his introductory monologue all the way until he gets his comeuppance at the hands of Lt. Aldo Raine's Bowie knife. Waltz brings just the right amount of outright menace to Landa but he makes him so charming you can't help but like him even with the knowledge that he is a proud and high ranking Nazi official. His performance is so thoroughly realized that you actually feel sympathy for a man who delights in having the nickname of the "Jew Hunter". That's a miraculous feat in itself but the character is made even more interesting since he is one step ahead of everyone in the film at all times. The most chilling moment in Inglourious Basterds, for me, will always be the moment Landa orders a glass of milk for Shoshanna after not having seen her for almost three years. Who else can write a villain so well that the most terrifying thing they can do is order someone a regular glass of milk? Now that you've read my list I'd love to hear any characters you thought should have been added or removed from this list. I'm sure there's plenty of them who are worthy these are just my personal choices.
