Prior to one of Maximus Decimus Meridius' early gladiatorial bouts, he is given some advice by a former gladiator - Antonius Proximo. Proximo tells him not just to be a butcher, because the crowd want a hero and an entertainer. Maximus, without saying a word, walks with intent towards the arena and is faced with five armed and armoured opponents. He casually despatches four of them before picking up a second sword from one of his victims. Armed with two swords against the final opponent, Maximus easily defeats him, plunging both swords in to his torso. He then removes the two swords and uses them to remove the defeated man's head. It is at this point that he defiantly throws one of his swords in to the VIP box at the arena and asks "are you not entertained?"
