3. Ludo Bagman

Fans of the book were severely disappointed when Ludo Bagman wasn’t featured in The Goblet of Fire adaptation.

This ex-England Beater is a bundle of energy and intrigue from the moment he shows up. As a member of the Department of Magical Games and Sports, Bagman is central to both the Quidditch World Cup and the Triwizard Tournament.

But that’s not all. Bagman is also one of the best red herrings in the entire series. Rowling lays out plenty of hints to indicate he’s up to something fishy, duping the reader into thinking he’s behind the mysterious events at Hogwarts.

In reality, his odd behaviour is linked to a gambling addiction and an unhealthy amount of debt. Still, it’s a neat subplot and a wicked piece of misdirection that would have been great to experience on screen.
