10 Harry Potter Plot Points Cut From The Movies That Can Be Used In The TV Reboot

2. Hermione's S.P.E.W. Campaign

After witnessing Barty Crouch Sr.'s treatment towards his house-elf Winky - not to mention the other elves at Hogwarts, after finding out they are the ones who make the food - Hermione started a campaign named Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare or S.P.E.W.

S.P.E.W. fought for the rights of house-elves, promoting free will and a life without slavery. However, many elves didn't like what Hermione was doing, as most claimed they didn't want a free life and would rather be kept enslaved.

Hermione also forced Ron and Harry to become a part of the movement, much to their dismay, resulting in Ron becoming S.P.E.W.'s treasurer and Harry its secretary.

During her 5th year, Hermione tried to set Hogwarts' elves free by knitting hats and socks for elves to take, forcing themselves to become free. However, this backfired as the Hogwarts elves found this "insulting" and, as a result, refused to clean the Gryiffindor Tower.

Although S.P.E.W. isn't mentioned again after the 5th book, the events that took place - and Hermione's actions - changed some people's views on house-elves, including Ron, who was concerned for the elves during the Battle of Hogwarts, which resulted in Hermione kissing him.
