10. Ron And Hermione Become Prefects

Before school started for their 5th year, Ron and Hermione were named prefects; something that came as a shock to the golden trio as they thought Harry would become prefect over Ron.

Ron and Hermione becoming prefects further made Harry feel lonely and an outsider, as the two often had to leave Potter alone due to their extra responsibilities, including attending prefect-only meetings and patrolling the castle or the Hogwarts Express.

As prefects, Ron and Hermione had authority over other students and were allowed to give out detentions and deduct house points. Harry felt as if Dumbledore didn't trust him after the events of the graveyard, as not only did this decision isolate Potter more from his friends, but Dumbledore himself was shunning Harry as well.

Dumbledore would later explain to Harry that he didn't make him prefect as Potter had too much on his plate already. However, there have been theories that Dumbledore made Ron prefect because he knew the youngster needed a confidence boost, as he would later be fighting alongside Harry when defeating Voldemort.
