2. That Was Kevin Smith Shouting Profanity At Michael Parks - Red State (2011)
Sure, Kevin Smith's Red State was a bit of mess, but that in no way stopped me from enjoying it from beginning to end - in fact, it's probably my favourite Kevin Smith flick, which isn't saying much, 'cause I don't really like Kevin Smith movies. As a sort of horror/commentary on religious extremists hybrid, it works pretty well, though, and Michael Parks (who plays a Westboro Baptist Church-like preacher) is undoubtably the movie's comic highlight. At the end of Red State, after we realise the world has not, in fact, ended, Parks is put in jail for killing a bunch of people and generally being something of an intolerable douchebag. The film's last shot has Parks wandering about in his jail cell, quoting Bible passages like they're going out of style. Just seconds before the movie ends, we hear a voice in an opposing cell telling the preacher to "Shut the f*ck up." That voice, film fans, is director Kevin Smith. One can't quite help but feel as though this was a personal message to the members of the Westboro Baptist Church - and I'd like to re-iterate that statement right now.
